Richard Stuijver – Senior Export Forwarder
“I make all the necessary arrangements and documents for a major client. Their consignments are always urgent. Usually it’s components that are urgently needed for repairs. One day’s delay would mean another day lost in their production. That could be a costly business. So we work really hard to get the consignment to its destination as quickly as possible. I find out who is flying there and when. See what can be done for a certain price. That means making phone calls, sending emails and faxes.
But if a consignment is 15 metres long, for instance, there is the problem that some carriers can’t take it. Complicated legal requirements can be even more troublesome. But we are always able to find a logical solution. We keep one eye on the clock, but not because it’s time to go home. We try to get the consignment on its way and sometimes that means working late. Fridays included!
You can’t train for this job at school. Friends told me about it, and Aerocar organised the specialised courses I needed. They have given me every opportunity. I am in my early twenties and have a management job with numerous international contacts. There aren’t many firms where this happens.”
