“Only companies that comply with strict requirements and conditions receive the customs certificate of Authorised Economic Operator (AEO). This approval has the advantage of ensuring customs inspections and declarations run smoothly and quickly. It is a tough job to obtain and retain the AEO Certificate.”
In 2008, Aerocar decided to acquire the AEO Certificate in combination with a clarification of its work processes. The company embarked on an eighteen month project led by Gerrit and assisted by the specialist, Process Express. The processes were studied and critical process indicators implemented. The people on the shop floor were explicitly involved in all this.
Gerrit: “Our ambition was to acquire the AEO Certificate, and by doing so the ISO9001:2008 certificate came within our reach. We are now proud to have both certificates on display.”
The operating results are forging ahead. “We now do 15 percent more work with 15 percent less staff”, Gerrit says. “And the commitment and awareness of the employees has grown, because we always keep track of our critical performance indicators. Everyone knows their own role within the organisation, and they continually come up with improvements.”
